In our quest for understanding and progress we have lost the things that make us alive. Most people do not anymore have a true idea of what feeling alive is, and those that do, we pity out of ignorance. We have traded our connection with everything real and alive for some flimsy notion of an idea that we have any control. We have traded it for 20$ an hour yoga classes, ridiculous diets, high-rise prisons, mega churches, and a plethora of other things all with promise of making you a more alive, more in touch, better humans.
I have found little wisdom in books in my life. Men who waste their lives pondering the stars would have better spent their time learning to read them to go north for when they are lost. And you say to me, we don’t live in a society that requires people to learn these mundane and physical skills but one based on knowledge. I say then why is it we live in such an unhappy society with half the population on antidepressants and the other half constantly trying to find themselves in yoga studios?
Humans were not meant to exist in such a manner as we have created. Men have not evolved to sit behind desks starring at screens anymore than it is natural to put a lion in a cage at a zoo. Yet we keep on this drive to “progress” like that is actually what we are achieving.
There is no progress to be made here. We are. We exist. We live, we eat, we stay warm, we fuck, we keep babies alive, we die. Everything this “progress” has done has complicated all of that.
